Desrving World No:1

Last Decade we witnessed a re-incarnated team India who has done wonders outside subcontinental conditions, starting from the 2003 Tour of Australia, where we retained our BG Trophy against Australia. I still remember the final day of fourth test match where we spoiled the send off party of the legendary Steve Waugh with charismatic batting display of Sachin, VVS and "The Wall". The world press took some time to digest the fact that this new team India is actually erasing their predecessor's reputation of "not travelling well" outside subcontinent. From that day onwards there was a new Team India who where winning tournaments abroad with scintillating team and individual performance. It was going around pretty well till the current tour of England. Now our world champion team is back to square one, with a pathetic display of cricket. Whenever we bat the pitch looks like a bowling wicket and whenever we bowl, it would behave like a flat deck. Lack of form, injuries, slow over rates, dropped catches etc etc etc: these are the common problems when a team is not performing well. I have never seen such a baseless field placement, Thanks to our so called best skipper ever MSD. On the other hand England team is passing the challenge with flying colours. All the players contributed to the success story and it is delightfull to watch their tail bat. This is a team riding on confidence, but as far as No:1 spot is concerned I feel they have two more litmus test to pass. One is to win a series in subcontinent and Second is to win against South Africa in South Africa. If they can acheive that, which I beleive thay can, there is nothing stopping them to be the next superpower of cricket for the next decade. But they should always remember the lesson they have learned from India, that is not to fall to complacency after getting to the top spot. Good luck England for the next glorious years ahead.

The new POTC fails to impress.....

It took almost a month for me, an ardent fan of Johnny Depp; to watch POTC 4 due to my work commitments. The expectations were immense, mainly due to the gap between the previous movie, the 3-D release, cachy trailers and new starcasts....but was gravely dissapointed.

Johnny Depp was his usual self, but the responsibilty of carrying the whole movie on his shoulders was evident in many scenes. Goeffrey Rush's character lacks intensity and reason. The new villian " Blackbeard" neither have the impact like Davvy Jones and Barbossa had in the earlier movies and also lacks in punchy dialogues that Cutler beckett had. Penelope Cruz did impress in a few scenes but stepping into Kiera's shoes was difficult. Well I was suddenly aware of Kiera's hold in the previous movies thanks to the "On stranger tides". I doubt if Jerry Beckheimmer will try for a sequel for this one and if he did, he needs to find a better script than this......

Pressure on new Franchises

The two new franchises for IPL 2011 has started off with flying colours. But today at halfway mark of the tournament both of them stands at the bottom of the table. Pressure is mounting on both the Captains of these new franchises. Pune warriors haa got one of the most attacking batsmen rerquired for a 20-20 cricket match. Still they have problem in chasing moderate targets say 155 as in the case against RCB. After winning the first two matches impressively they have been in a loosing spree of 6 straight matches. The media and former players are heavily criticising Yuvraj's leadership skills and field settings. While on the other hand The Kochi Tuskers have been the most inconsistent team in IPL 2011. After a mediocre show at first two matches, they came out with a bang winning the next three against MI, CSK and KKR. Then again they lost the next three. Skipper Jayawardhane is under pressure from his board for coming back for preperation for the next overseas tour for his country. This will make things more complicated for Kochi as their fortune depends on few individual players like Mccullum, Mahela and Jadeja due to their meagre batting resources. Both Yuvraj and Mahela has to do something out of the box to come out of this situation.

Mid tournament decider for Tuskers

On paper Tuskers are favourite to win today's encounter against The Deccan Chargers. But as it is evident, the game of 20-20 is ridiculously unpredictable. The Tuskers has now earned the reputation of Giant Killers in this edition of IPL by beating last year's finalist CSK and Mumbai Indians. They have also defeated the most tallented team KKR. But after 6 matches with a record of 3 win and 3 losses, today's match might be the turning point for KTK's hopes for finishing on top four. Considering that skipper Mahela has to leave early for upcoming international commitments, it is crucial that KTK should win these remaining home matches.............

Encounter of the year

One state in India is lucky enough to have two ipl teams in the IPL 2011. Now when the neighbouring cities come face to face today for a match of 20-20 cricket, the fans might have a dilemma for whom to support. Both teams are strong on paper. While Mumbai Indians are blessed with great batting and bowling talent with the likes of Tendulkar, Rayudu, Rohit Sharma, Malinga, Munaf, Harbhajan ...... The warriors have the most talented power hitters required for the game in Yuvraj, Ryder, Smith and Uthappa.....It might be the bowling department where the new franchise has missed a trick.....the average bowling line up has done well till now, but there real test will be against the might of MI batsmen......Lets wait till 4PM today to find out.............

Kochi Tuskers Kerala on a winning spree

After a very bumpy start the New Franchise in IPL 2011 is on a winning spree. After losing the first two ipl matches, the enigmatic kerala team won their last two matches against the previous year finalists, the Mumbai Indians and Chennai super Kings. Bravo Tuskers..................................You have proven that in a jungle of lions, tigers and panthers, the mighty elephant still have the edge..........
